Toronto companies trust Pickr for recruiting intelligence

Pickr gives recruitment agencies and in-house hiring teams in Toronto a scored shortlist in minutes, structured interviews for every role, and match reasoning you can put in front of a client or a hiring manager.

Toronto is Canada's largest hiring market and several markets at once. Bay Street hires for the big banks, the insurers, the pension funds and the asset managers, and a fintech scene has grown up around them. Downtown and along the waterfront, venture-backed scaleups, the Canadian offices of US software companies and an AI research cluster compete for the same engineers, product managers and data scientists, with the Waterloo corridor feeding talent in from the west. The hospital network and the Discovery District add a large healthcare and life-sciences employer base, and the Big Four, the national law firms, the media and advertising agencies and the provincial government all hire from the same downtown pool. Almost every employer in the city is hiring against someone larger.

That is what makes hiring in Toronto hard. The talent pool is deep and unusually international: many candidates arrived in Canada recently, with experience and titles earned in other markets that do not map neatly onto a Canadian job description. At the same time, US employers now hire Toronto talent remotely and pay in US dollars, so a strong developer or analyst rarely has only one process running. Agencies work contingency briefs that go to several firms at once and retained searches for senior roles, and the first shortlist a hiring manager can act on usually wins. Hybrid working has spread the commuter belt across the whole Greater Toronto Area, and for anyone hired from abroad a work permit adds weeks to a start date.

How Pickr helps

What Toronto teams get with Pickr

A scored shortlist before the brief has gone cold

Describe the role. Pickr finds and scores candidates from your own talent pool and beyond in minutes, with reasoning attached to every match. Related skills count, so a candidate whose last title was written for a different market, or who solved a hard version of a neighboring problem, is not filtered out for lacking the exact keyword. On a Toronto contingency brief that is the difference between the shortlist the client acts on and the one that arrives second.

Match reasoning you can put in front of a client or a hiring manager

Every score comes with an explanation in plain sentences: what fits, what is missing, what to probe in the interview. Agencies send it to the client with the submission; in-house teams use it to get a hiring manager to a decision without another meeting. Every completed placement makes the next shortlist for that role sharper, so your accuracy on the profiles you place most improves over time.

Structured interviews and a client portal that ends the CV email chain

Each role gets tailored interview questions, live transcription and scorecards that write themselves, so a panel spread across downtown, Mississauga and a home office scores the same candidate the same way. Your clients review candidates, vote and leave feedback in their own portal, free and with no user limit. Interviewer and hiring-manager seats are free as well, so the whole panel is in the room without a licensing discussion.

Less admin, more conversations

Follow-ups, scheduling, rejections and status updates are drafted for you; you review and send. Email, calendar, Slack, WhatsApp and LinkedIn conversations land in one inbox against the right candidate. If you prefer, connect Claude or ChatGPT via MCP and run the pipeline from a chat window. Your afternoon goes back to candidates and clients instead of copying between tools.

EU-hosted in Germany

Candidate data and the application itself run in Frankfurt, Germany, inside the EU. Pickr is GDPR compliant, a data processing agreement (DPA) is included, and names and email addresses are redacted from AI prompts by default. For a Toronto agency or hiring team that is a clear answer to the data-residency question in a vendor review, and when you place EU candidates or work for European clients, their data never leaves the EU. The product works anywhere in the world with an English interface and runs from Toronto exactly as it does from Berlin. Built in Austria by a founder who ran a recruitment agency himself.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is Pickr available in Toronto?

Yes. Pickr is a cloud application and is available to companies and recruitment agencies in Toronto and across Canada with nothing to install. You, your clients and your interviewers work in the browser. The interface, demo, onboarding and support are in English. We work from Central European time, so Toronto mornings are the easiest slots for a live demo. Pricing is on request; the quickest way to get it is to book a demo.

Where is candidate data stored?

Candidate data and the application run in Frankfurt, Germany, inside the EU. Pickr is GDPR compliant, a data processing agreement under Art. 28 GDPR is included, and personal data such as names and email addresses is redacted from AI prompts by default. If you want AI processing to stay entirely within the EU, that is a single setting. For a Canadian team, EU hosting is a plus whenever you place EU candidates or work with EU clients.

Does Pickr work for recruitment agencies in Toronto?

Yes. Pickr was built by a founder who ran a recruitment agency himself. Clients, mandates, submissions and placements are part of the product, not tags bolted onto an in-house tool. You run several client pipelines side by side, your clients review candidates in a free portal, and every shortlist comes with reasoning you can send with the submission. It suits contingency, retained and hybrid models.

Which languages does Pickr support?

The interface is available in English and German. Candidate data, CVs and notes can be in any language, so a Toronto team can work with French CVs from Québec or a newcomer's CV written for another market in the same pipeline as English ones. Candidates are scored against the same role requirements regardless of the language they applied in.

Can we import our existing ATS or CRM data?

Yes. One-click import from Bullhorn, Greenhouse, Lever and Ashby, or a CSV export from any other system your team uses today. Past applications, talent pools and notes are searchable and scored from day one, so your first search on Pickr does not start from an empty database.

Does Pickr work for in-house hiring teams in Toronto?

Yes. In-house teams at banks, scaleups, hospitals and professional services firms use the same scored shortlist, structured interviews and automatic follow-ups. Hiring managers and interviewers join on free seats, and feedback lands where the decision is made instead of in an email thread. Personio, BambooHR and HiBob receive the new-hire record automatically on placement.
