New York
New York companies trust Pickr for recruiting intelligence
Pickr gives recruitment agencies and in-house hiring teams in New York a scored shortlist in minutes, structured interviews for every role, and match reasoning you can put in front of a client, a hiring manager or a candidate who asks.
New York is one of the most crowded hiring markets in the United States, and almost every sector in it is competing for the same people. Wall Street and Midtown hire for investment banking, asset management, private equity, hedge funds and insurance, and the fintechs a few blocks away want the same quants, engineers and analysts. Big Law, the Big Four and the strategy consultancies chase the same graduates and associates. Tech has spread from the Flatiron District to Hudson Yards and across the river to Brooklyn, where the New York offices of the large West Coast platforms sit next to venture-backed startups in fintech, health tech, adtech and AI. Add the media groups and advertising agencies, the fashion and retail head offices, the large hospital systems, real estate and the city's own public sector, and you have a market where every employer is hiring against someone with a bigger brand or deeper pockets.
That is what makes hiring in New York hard. The talent pool is deep and international, but candidates move quickly, interview with several employers at once and expect a decision in days rather than weeks. At-will employment cuts both ways: people leave fast, and counteroffers are routine. The market is heavy on agencies and search firms, from contingency staffing to retained executive search, and most hiring managers keep a preferred supplier list and have little patience for a shortlist they cannot act on. Pay transparency rules put salary ranges in the job posting before the first conversation, so candidates arrive well informed. Hiring from outside the US means visa sponsorship, with its own lead time and uncertainty, and hybrid working means a Manhattan employer now competes with remote roles across the country as well as with the firm across the street.
Market snapshot
Hiring in New York at a glance
- Key sectors
- Financial services (banking, asset management, private equity, hedge funds, insurance), fintech, technology and startups, law, consulting and accounting, media, advertising and publishing, fashion and retail, healthcare and hospital systems, real estate, public sector.
- Typical employers
- Global banks and asset managers, hedge funds and private equity firms, Big Law and Big Four offices, strategy consultancies, New York offices of the large technology platforms, venture-backed startups, media and advertising groups, fashion and consumer brands, hospital systems and universities, city agencies.
- Talent pool
- Deep and international: graduates from the city's universities and the Northeast corridor, experienced hires from every US financial and technology hub, and a steady inflow from Europe, Asia and Latin America. Commuters arrive daily from New Jersey, Long Island, Westchester and Connecticut.
- Languages of business
- English. Multilingual teams are common, and roles covering Latin America, Europe or Asia regularly ask for Spanish, Portuguese, Mandarin, French or German alongside it.
- Hiring dynamics
- Fast and agency-dense. Contingency staffing, retained executive search and in-house talent teams coexist, often on the same role. Salary ranges are public in job postings by law, and the city regulates automated hiring tools, so hiring managers expect to see why a candidate made the shortlist. Candidates in demand run several processes at once and expect quick answers.
- Remote and relocation
- Hybrid is the norm in finance, tech and professional services, and many firms have pulled people back to the office for more of the week. Fully remote roles compete for the same people from across the US. Hiring from outside the US usually means visa sponsorship, which adds lead time and uncertainty.
How Pickr helps
What New York teams get with Pickr
A scored shortlist before the other agencies have finished sourcing
Describe the role. Pickr finds and scores candidates from your own talent pool and beyond in minutes, with reasoning attached to every match. Related skills count, so a strong profile from a neighboring specialty is not filtered out for lacking the exact keyword. When a New York brief goes out to three agencies at once, that is the difference between sending the shortlist the client acts on and sending the one that arrives second.
Match reasoning you can show a hiring manager, a client or a candidate
Every score comes with an explanation in plain sentences: what fits, what is missing, what to probe in the interview. Agencies send it with the submission; in-house teams use it to get a hiring manager to a decision without another meeting. In a city that asks employers to explain how automated tools are used in hiring, that matters: Pickr never makes a hiring decision on its own, and you can always say why someone made the list. Every completed placement makes the next shortlist for that role sharper, so your accuracy on the profiles you place most improves over time.
Structured interviews and a client portal that ends the CV email chain
Each role gets tailored interview questions, live transcription and scorecards that write themselves. Your clients review candidates, vote and leave feedback in their own portal, free and with no user limit. Interviewer and hiring-manager seats are free as well, so a panel of six at a bank or a startup is in the room without a licensing discussion.
Less admin, more conversations
Follow-ups, scheduling, rejections and status updates are drafted for you; you review and send. Candidates pick interview slots themselves, which helps when your client sits in London and the candidate in Brooklyn. Email, calendar, Slack, WhatsApp and LinkedIn conversations land in one inbox against the right candidate. If you prefer, connect Claude or ChatGPT via MCP and run the pipeline from a chat window. Your afternoon goes back to candidates and clients instead of copying between tools.
EU-hosted in Germany
Candidate data and the application itself run in Frankfurt, Germany, inside the EU. Pickr is GDPR compliant, a data processing agreement (DPA) is included, and names and email addresses are redacted from AI prompts by default. For a New York agency or hiring team that becomes a practical advantage the moment you place candidates from Europe or work for a client with European offices: their data is handled under GDPR from day one, with nothing extra to set up, and the same strict default applies to your US candidates. The product works anywhere in the world with an English interface. Built in Austria by a founder who ran a recruitment agency himself.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Is Pickr available in New York?
Yes. Pickr is a cloud application and is available to companies and recruitment agencies in New York and across the United States with nothing to install. You, your clients and your interviewers work in the browser. The interface, demo, onboarding and support are in English. Pricing is on request; the quickest way to get it is to book a demo.
Where is candidate data stored?
Candidate data and the application run in Frankfurt, Germany, inside the EU, not in the United States. Pickr is GDPR compliant, a data processing agreement under Art. 28 GDPR is included, and personal data such as names and email addresses is redacted from AI prompts by default. If you want AI processing to stay entirely within the EU, that is a single setting. For teams with European candidates or clients, that is the point.
Does Pickr work for recruitment agencies in New York?
Yes. Pickr was built by a founder who ran a recruitment agency himself. Clients, mandates, submissions and placements are part of the product, not tags bolted onto an in-house tool. You run several client pipelines side by side, your clients review candidates in a free portal, and every shortlist comes with reasoning you can send with the submission. It suits contingency staffing, retained search and hybrid fee models.
Which languages does Pickr support?
The interface is available in English and German. Candidate data, resumes and notes can be in any language, so a New York team hiring for Latin America or Europe can work with Spanish, Portuguese, French or German resumes in the same pipeline as English ones, and candidates are scored against the same role requirements regardless of the language they applied in.
Can we import our existing ATS or CRM data?
Yes. One-click import from Bullhorn, Greenhouse, Lever and Ashby, automatic recognition of Teamtailor exports, or a CSV from any other system. Past applications, talent pools and notes are searchable and scored from day one, so your first search on Pickr does not start from an empty database.
Does Pickr work for in-house hiring teams in New York?
Yes. In-house teams at banks, startups, law firms, hospital systems and consultancies use the same scored shortlist, structured interviews and automatic follow-ups. Hiring managers and interviewers join on free seats, and feedback lands where the decision is made instead of in an email thread.
