Chicago
Chicago companies trust Pickr for recruiting intelligence
Pickr gives recruitment agencies and in-house hiring teams in Chicago a scored shortlist in minutes, structured interviews for every role, and match reasoning you can put in front of a client or a hiring manager.
Chicago is the business capital of the Midwest, and it hires across a wider spread of sectors than almost any other US city. The Loop and the derivatives exchanges make it a center for trading, market making, banking and insurance. The Big Four, the large law firms and the strategy consultancies sit a few blocks away and compete for the same analysts and associates. Tech has settled into Fulton Market and the West Loop, where venture-backed startups, the Midwest offices of coastal software companies and a strong fintech and healthtech scene all want the same engineers, product managers and data people. Around the core sit the headquarters of food and consumer goods groups, industrial and manufacturing companies, pharma and medical device makers in the northern suburbs, a national rail and air freight hub, and hospital systems and academic medical centers that hire clinicians and administrators at scale.
What makes hiring in Chicago hard is less the depth of the pool than the pull on it. The city draws graduates from universities across the Midwest, but coastal and remote-first employers recruit those same people without ever opening an office here, so a Chicago employer often finds itself the local option in a national process. Agencies are a large part of the market: some of the biggest staffing firms in the country are based in the region, most corporate employers work from a supplier list, and a brief goes out to several agencies at once. The first shortlist a hiring manager can act on usually wins the fee. Hybrid is the default in finance, professional services and tech, suburban campuses compete with downtown offices for the same commuters, and candidates in demand expect clear, quick feedback or move on to the next process.
Market snapshot
Hiring in Chicago at a glance
- Key sectors
- Financial services and derivatives trading, insurance, professional services (law, audit, consulting), technology and fintech, healthcare and life sciences, manufacturing and industrial, food and consumer goods, logistics and transportation.
- Typical employers
- Exchanges, trading firms and banks, insurance carriers, Big Four and large law firms, venture-backed startups and the Midwest offices of coastal tech companies, consumer goods and industrial headquarters, hospital systems and academic medical centers, freight and logistics operators.
- Talent pool
- Deep and Midwestern: graduates from Chicago's universities and from across the Midwest, experienced professionals who chose the city over the coasts for cost of living, and a steady flow of people relocating in from smaller Midwest markets.
- Languages of business
- English. Bilingual English and Spanish is a common requirement in healthcare, logistics, retail and customer-facing roles, and global roles at consumer goods and industrial headquarters regularly ask for a second language.
- Hiring dynamics
- Agency-dense and supplier-list driven. Contingency briefs go to several agencies at once, retained search covers senior and specialist roles, and large staffing firms run high-volume desks alongside boutique search firms. Candidates in demand run several processes in parallel.
- Remote and relocation
- Hybrid is the default downtown, while many suburban campuses have pulled staff back to the office more firmly. Remote-first employers on the coasts recruit Chicago talent directly, and relocation into Chicago from elsewhere in the Midwest is common and usually easy to sell on cost of living.
How Pickr helps
What Chicago teams get with Pickr
A scored shortlist before the other agencies on the supplier list have finished sourcing
Describe the role. Pickr finds and scores candidates from your own talent pool and beyond in minutes, with reasoning attached to every match. Related skills count, so a strong profile from a neighboring specialty is not filtered out for lacking the exact keyword. On a multi-agency brief in Chicago, that is the difference between sending the shortlist the client acts on and sending the one that arrives second.
Match reasoning a hiring manager in the Loop or in Naperville can act on
Every score comes with an explanation in plain sentences: what fits, what is missing, what to probe in the interview. Agencies send it to the client with the submission; in-house teams use it to get a hiring manager to a decision without another meeting. Every completed placement makes the next shortlist for that role sharper, so your accuracy on the profiles you place most improves over time.
Structured interviews and a client portal that ends the resume email chain
Each role gets tailored interview questions, live transcription and scorecards that write themselves. Your clients review candidates, vote and leave feedback in their own portal, free and with no user limit. Interviewer and hiring-manager seats are free as well, so the whole panel is in the room without a licensing discussion.
Less admin, more conversations
Follow-ups, scheduling, rejections and status updates are drafted for you; you review and send. Email, calendar, Slack, WhatsApp and LinkedIn conversations land in one inbox against the right candidate. If you prefer, connect Claude or ChatGPT via MCP and run the pipeline from a chat window. Your afternoon goes back to candidates and clients instead of copying between tools.
EU-hosted in Germany
Candidate data and the application itself run in Frankfurt, Germany, inside the EU. Pickr is GDPR compliant, a data processing agreement (DPA) is included, and names and email addresses are redacted from AI prompts by default. For a Chicago agency or hiring team that rarely matters until it does: the moment you place candidates from Europe, staff a client's European office or answer a vendor questionnaire from an EU-headquartered parent, having candidate data in the EU under GDPR is an answer rather than a project. The product works anywhere in the world with an English interface. Built in Austria by a founder who ran a recruitment agency himself.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Is Pickr available in Chicago?
Yes. Pickr is a cloud application and is available to companies and recruitment agencies in Chicago and across the United States with nothing to install. You, your clients and your interviewers work in the browser. The interface, demo, onboarding and support are in English, and in-house teams and agencies use the same product. Pricing is on request; the quickest way to get it is to book a demo.
Where is candidate data stored?
Candidate data and the application run in Frankfurt, Germany, inside the EU. Pickr is GDPR compliant, a data processing agreement under Art. 28 GDPR is included, and personal data such as names and email addresses is redacted from AI prompts by default. If you want AI processing to stay entirely within the EU, that is a single setting. For a US team, nothing about this changes how the product works day to day.
Does Pickr work for recruitment agencies in Chicago?
Yes. Pickr was built by a founder who ran a recruitment agency himself. Clients, mandates, submissions and placements are part of the product, not tags bolted onto an in-house tool. You run several client pipelines side by side, your clients review candidates in a free portal, and every shortlist comes with reasoning you can send with the submission. It suits contingency, retained and hybrid engagements.
Which languages does Pickr support?
The interface is available in English and German. Candidate data, resumes and notes can be in any language, so a Chicago team hiring bilingual roles or staffing a client's European office can work with Spanish, German or French resumes in the same pipeline as English ones, and candidates are scored against the same role requirements regardless of the language they applied in.
Can we import our existing ATS or CRM data?
Yes. One-click import from Bullhorn, Greenhouse, Lever and Ashby, automatic recognition of Teamtailor exports, or a CSV from any other system. Past applications, talent pools and notes are searchable and scored from day one, so your first search on Pickr does not start from an empty database.
Do we need EU hosting if we only hire in the United States?
You do not need it, but you get it anyway, and it costs you nothing in convenience. The product works the same for a team that only ever hires in Illinois. EU hosting becomes useful the first time you place a candidate from Europe, staff a client's EU office or field a data-protection questionnaire from a European parent company: the answer is already yes, with a data processing agreement ready to sign.
