Brisbane
Brisbane companies trust Pickr for recruiting intelligence
Pickr gives recruitment agencies and in-house hiring teams in Brisbane a scored shortlist in minutes, structured interviews for every role, and match reasoning you can put in front of a client or a hiring manager, whether they sit in the CBD, on a regional site or in a head office overseas.
Brisbane runs on a different mix of industries from Sydney and Melbourne. Health is the largest employer in the city: the big public hospitals, the private hospital and aged care groups and the medical research precincts hire doctors, nurses, allied health professionals and researchers from one pool that never quite catches up with demand. Mining, coal, gas and energy companies run their head offices, engineering and technical functions from the CBD while the operations sit in regional Queensland, so the city hires project engineers, geologists, planners and project controls specialists for sites that are a flight away. The state government is headquartered here, and around it sit the engineering consultancies and construction contractors delivering the road, rail and venue program that builds up to the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Add a technology scene centered on Fortitude Valley, defense and aerospace work in the city's west, three large universities, the port and the agribusiness supply chain, and you get a market where a hospital, a mining company and a software scaleup are all after the same project managers, analysts and developers.
That is what makes hiring in Brisbane hard. The talent pool is growing faster than in the southern capitals, with people relocating from Sydney and Melbourne for the cost of living and the climate, but demand in health, engineering and construction has run ahead of supply for years, and a good candidate rarely has only one process open. Employers compete with fly-in fly-out rosters that pay well, with remote roles offered by companies in Sydney and Melbourne, and with the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast, which share one South East Queensland labor market with Brisbane and pull people down the highway. Hiring from overseas means employer sponsorship, which is slow. The market is agency-heavy in resources, engineering, construction and health: briefs go to several agencies at once, and the shortlist a hiring manager can act on first usually wins the placement. And because Queensland skips daylight saving, the interview window with a head office in Europe or North America shrinks to the early morning or the end of the day, so every extra scheduling round costs days.
Market snapshot
Hiring in Brisbane at a glance
- Key sectors
- Health and medical research, resources and energy (head office, engineering and technical functions), engineering, construction and infrastructure, state government, technology and scaleups, defense and aerospace, higher education, logistics and agribusiness.
- Typical employers
- Public hospital and health services, private hospital and aged care groups, mining and energy companies with head offices in the city, engineering consultancies and construction contractors, Queensland government departments and their suppliers, universities, software scaleups, defense primes and the businesses around them.
- Talent pool
- Domestic and increasingly interstate: graduates from the city's universities, experienced hires moving up from Sydney and Melbourne, skilled migrants choosing Queensland, and New Zealanders who can work without sponsorship. Resource-sector rosters and remote employers in the southern capitals compete for the same people.
- Languages of business
- English. Multilingual staff are valued in health, education, tourism and in customer-facing roles that cover the Asia-Pacific region, but recruiting itself runs in English.
- Hiring dynamics
- Agency-heavy in resources, engineering, construction and health. Preferred supplier lists and multi-agency contingency briefs are common, retained search is used for senior roles, and contract hiring rises and falls with the infrastructure pipeline. Shortages in clinical, engineering and technical roles mean candidates field several offers and counteroffers are normal.
- Remote and relocation
- Hybrid is the norm in professional services, government and tech. Resources roles often mean fly-in fly-out or a regional posting. Brisbane attracts relocations from the southern capitals, overseas hires usually need employer sponsorship, and the absence of daylight saving in Queensland keeps the live overlap with Europe and North America short.
How Pickr helps
What Brisbane teams get with Pickr
A scored shortlist while the brief is still fresh
Describe the role. Pickr finds and scores candidates from your own talent pool and beyond in minutes, with reasoning attached to every match. Related skills count, so a project engineer from a mining contractor is not filtered out of an infrastructure brief for lacking the exact keyword, and a nurse with the right specialty is not lost behind a job title. On a multi-agency brief in Brisbane, that is the difference between sending the shortlist the client acts on and sending the one that arrives second.
Match reasoning that travels to a site office or an overseas head office
Every score comes with an explanation in plain sentences: what fits, what is missing, what to probe in the interview. Agencies send it to the client with the submission; in-house teams use it to get a hiring manager on a regional site or in a head office in another time zone to a decision without another meeting. Every completed placement makes the next shortlist for that role sharper, so your accuracy on the profiles you place most improves over time.
Structured interviews and a client portal that end the CV email chain
Each role gets tailored interview questions, live transcription and scorecards that write themselves, so a panel split between the city, a regional site and an interstate office evaluates candidates against the same criteria. Candidates pick interview slots themselves, which matters when the overlap with a European or North American head office is a few hours a day. Your clients review candidates, vote and leave feedback in their own portal, free and with no user limit. Interviewer and hiring-manager seats are free as well, so the whole panel is in the room without a licensing discussion.
Less admin, more conversations
Follow-ups, scheduling, rejections and status updates are drafted for you; you review and send, so candidates hear back the same day instead of going quiet and taking the other offer. Email, calendar, Slack, WhatsApp and LinkedIn conversations land in one inbox against the right candidate. If you prefer, connect Claude or ChatGPT via MCP and run the pipeline from a chat window. Your afternoon goes back to candidates and clients instead of copying between tools.
EU-hosted in Germany
Candidate data and the application itself run in Frankfurt, Germany, inside the EU. Pickr is GDPR compliant, a data processing agreement (DPA) is included, and names and email addresses are redacted from AI prompts by default. For a Brisbane agency or hiring team that is a plus rather than a hurdle: when you place candidates from Europe, work for European clients or report to a European parent company, their data is already handled to the standard they expect, and you have a clear answer for the privacy section of any vendor questionnaire. The product works anywhere in the world with an English interface. Built in Austria by a founder who ran a recruitment agency himself.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Is Pickr available in Brisbane?
Yes. Pickr is a cloud application and is available to companies and recruitment agencies in Brisbane and across Queensland with nothing to install. You, your clients and your interviewers work in the browser, at any hour, with no dependency on office hours in Europe. The interface, demo, onboarding and support are in English. Pricing is on request; the quickest way to get it is to book a demo.
Where is candidate data stored?
Candidate data and the application run in Frankfurt, Germany, inside the EU, not in Australia. Pickr is GDPR compliant, a data processing agreement under Art. 28 GDPR is included, and names and email addresses are redacted from AI prompts by default. AI processing can be kept entirely within the EU if you prefer. If a client contract or a public-sector tender requires in-country hosting, raise it with us before you start.
Does Pickr work for recruitment agencies in Brisbane?
Yes. Pickr was built by a founder who ran a recruitment agency himself. Clients, mandates, submissions and placements are part of the product, not tags bolted onto an in-house tool. You run several client pipelines side by side, hospitals, miners and engineering consultancies alike. Clients review candidates in a free portal, every shortlist carries reasoning you can send with the submission, and contingency, retained and hybrid models all fit.
Which languages does Pickr support?
The interface is available in English and German. Candidate data, CVs and notes can be in any language, so a Brisbane team hiring internationally or working with a European parent company can score a German, French or Mandarin CV against the same role requirements as an English one, in the same pipeline.
Can we import our existing ATS or CRM data?
Yes. One-click import from Bullhorn, Greenhouse, Lever and Ashby, or CSV from any other system, JobAdder included. Past applications, talent pools and notes are searchable and scored from day one, so your first search on Pickr does not start from an empty database.
Does Pickr work for in-house hiring teams in Brisbane?
Yes. In-house teams at hospitals, engineering firms, resources companies, government suppliers and software scaleups get the same scored shortlist, structured interviews and drafted follow-ups as agencies do. Hiring managers and interviewers join on free seats, wherever they sit, and their feedback lands where the decision is made instead of in an email thread.
